Junior doctors at Osmania General Hospital called off their strike on Tuesday evening after the health administration assured them of a secure work environment. The doctors began protesting on Sunday night after an attack on their colleagues at the hospital.

The Telganana Government Doctors’ Association represented to the Director of Medical Education their demands, which included enhancement of security personnel at OGH and installation of security cameras. Agreeing to their demands, the DME had promised to implement them in a week, the doctors claimed.

“Within 24 hours, we were promised that the number of security personnel will be increased in sensitive areas. This prompted us to call of the strike,” said a doctor. The other demands would be addressed in a week, he added.

Four junior doctors were allegedly assaulted by an irate relative of a patient who died at the hospital on Sunday. The assaulter was arrested on Monday after the doctors struck work and crippled services.
