Officers to oversee GST implementation

Sector-specific price rise to be monitored

The Central Government has deputed senior officials for monitoring and implementation of the Goods and Services Tax with a focus on resolution of difficulties, if any, faced by consumers.

The officials had been directed to obtain feedback from consumer associations, individual consumers, business associations, district administration among others on daily basis besides utilising the channels of feedback like call centres, web portals, social media and video conferences.

They should monitor the calibration of billing software by traders with special focus on accounting and billing systems of the PSUs. The officials would also monitor availability of essential commodities and retail price trends and ensure that specific instances of price rise were reported in real time to consumer affairs and revenue departments. They should report sector-specific tax rate related issues to the revenue department.

The deputation of the senior officials comes as part of the Centre’s decision to group all the districts across the country as 166 clusters aligning them with the administrative divisions of the Central Revenue Department. Accordingly, Telangana has been divided into 10 clusters and the officials have been entrusted with monitoring implementation of the GST in their allocated districts.

Accordingly, senior official Heeralal Samariya’s name had been proposed for Nizamabad, Adilabad, Nirmal cluster and P. Subramaniam is likely to be deputed for Karimnagar and Rajanna-Sircilla cluster. The name of Rajiv Ranjan Mishra has been tipped for Mancherial, Komoram Bheem and Peddapally cluter and Sanjay Kumar has been proposed for Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool while Gopalakrishna Dwivedi is likely to head Khammam and Bhadrachalam.

Praveen Prakash’s name has been proposed for Warangal (rural), Warangal (urban) and Jangaon, Luv Agarwal for Sangareddy, Medak and Vikarabad, Praveen Kumar Srivastava for Medchal, Siddipet, Secunderabad Cantonment, Jishun Barua for Hyderabad, Yadadri and Sameer Kumar Khare for Rangareddy, Nalgonda and Suryapet clusters, according to an office memorandum sent to the State Government by the Department of Personnel and Training.
