‘Objectionable content on social media will attract police cases’

Chandrasekhar Rao pained on being targeted dora

Defaming the government on the social media with unverified claims or showing them in poor light through comments or pictures will not be tolerated and cases would be filed against such people, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said.

However, he said criticism of the schemes and the government was welcome but postings with an intention to defame with obnoxious comments and indecent pictures would attract penal action. He said the government would identify those posting against Ministers, MLAs and officials on the social media platforms and such behaviour would not be tolerated, he said.

But the CM did not go into the details of what kind of action would be initiated, except saying cases would be filed. He reminded that those defaming women and other sections using undesirable content, comments and pictures could be booked. He said some political parties and social organisations were engaging a few people to create distasteful content and circulating them. He was also pained that he was unnecessarily being targeted as “dora” though he belongs to a ‘minuscule minority’ community. “Dora is not a caste but a cult and they exist in several other castes as well. Those who have money and power behaved like doras,” he said.

The CM’s comments assume significance given the recent developments in other parts of the country, including neighbouring Andhra Pradesh where a supporter of YSRCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy was arrested for posting cartoons and pictures with offensive comments on AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
