The city unit of the BJP is in election mode. The party will soon organise a special meeting of its young members with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
This apart, BJP president Rajnath Singh will participate in a public meeting to be held at Nizam College grounds on June 3, BJP State president G. Kishen Reddy said.
Mr. Reddy said people, especially those in twin cities, were vexed with the Congress governnment and were looking towards the BJP to get their problems solved.
“The party should be strengthened right from the booth stage. Efforts should be made to win as many Assembly seats, besides earning majority seats in the next GHMC corporator election,” he said.
He said the State capital was facing problems of drinking water, power supply and law and order.
Industries on the city’s suburbs were closing down, leaving many unemployed.
The support extended by the Congress to the MIM will be exposed during the GHMC’s standing committee election to be held very shortly, he said.
Former MLA Prem Singh Rathore and former Sultan Bazar Corporator Shanker Yadav rejoined the BJP on the occasion.
Govt. told to take up Krishna phase III
The BJP city unit demanded that the government take up Krishna phase III and initiate the Godavari drinking water project to address drinking water needs in the capital.
The city requires nearly 450 mgd of water, but only 340 mgd is being supplied through Singur, Krishna Phase I and II, Manjeera I and II, Gandipet and Himayathsagar projects, BJP city unit president B. Venkat Reddy said.
The Krishna phase III budget, which was estimated at Rs. 700 crore in the past, has now escalated to Rs. 1,670 crore thanks to delay on the part of the government in launching the project. Though the Godavari project was announced several years ago, land acquisition had not commenced, he charged.
