It is not just five Road under Bridges or Road over Bridges across the railway lines within the State capital region which have been hanging fire for want of land acquisition by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) or release of assured funds from its side towards completion of the project as part of cost sharing arrangement.

The South Central Railway (SCR) has brought to the Government’s notice about 19 other ROB/RUBs across Telangana where the works have been sanctioned by the Railway Board between 2012-2017 but “the work could not be taken up as the alignment was yet to be finalised by the State Government’.

Change in proposals

Among these are:

Tandur-Mantatti ROB: Since the alignment was passing through a built up area and certain easing of curves was requested by the Roads & Building (R&B) department, a joint inspection report has been called for and details are yet to be submitted by the former.

Zaheerabad-Metalkunta ROB: Joint inspection has to be done to prepare plans afresh after it was proposed to take up four lane bridge with footpaths in the place of proposed two-lane bridge.

Kazipet-Vijayawada Three ROBs: Changed alignment plans are awaited.

Adilabad yard ROB with subway: Revised proposals are yet to be submitted after it was realised that the original alignment passes through heavy built up area.

Raigar-Wangapalli ROB: Here also the Government wants four lane rather than two lane and work held up due to road upgradation towards Yadadri. Kazipet-Balarshah ROB: Alignment yet to be finalised.

Secunderabad-Kazipet: Changed alignment plan still to be submitted after it was decided to hold a joint inspection with National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) as the proposed alignment runs parallel to the national highway.

Mahabubnagar-Manyamkonda ROB: Joint inspection between the R&B and railway engineers to be conducted and alignment still to be finalised.

Cost sharing proposals

Top engineers of the SCR have urged senior government officials of the R&B and Transport wings to assist completion of the bridges and closure of level crossing gates to ensure passenger safety by finalising the alignment plan early for completing the works.

There are nine other ROBs/RUBs taken up on cost sharing basis with the State Government where railway bridge portions have been completed but the approach work roads by the R&B department has been slow in seven of them and two are yet to begin.

These include: ROBs at Gullaguda-Sankarapalli, Pagidipalli-Bhongir, Peddampet-Ramagundam, Sriramnagar-Gadwal, Ghanapur-Nashkal, Ghatkesar-Bibinagar, Devarakadra-Kaunkuntla and Ravindrakhani-Mancherial. Cherlapalli-Ghatkesar ROB too has remained incomplete due to land acquisition issues.
