Long-standing demands of turning Niloufer Hospital into a Centre of Excellence and establishing an All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Telangana will be considered, Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said on Friday.
Speaking at the inauguration of Dhaatri Milk Bank at Niloufer Hospital on Friday, Ms. Patel said the proposals were put forth by the State’s health representatives to her.
“We will certainly look at the request of converting the hospital into a centre of excellence. We will also consider giving one AIIMS to Telangana state,” the Minister said, adding that the AIIMS demand had been communicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ms. Patel also launched Mothers Absolute Affection, a Central government scheme aimed at promoting exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months, and lowering infant mortality rate in the country.
“We are strongly committed to taking care of newborns and bringing down the number of deaths. To fulfil this objective, a push to MAA initiative and setting up milk banks like the one at Niloufer are extremely important,” she added.
