Wednesday turned out to be another bad day for commuters who had to brace themselves for a hard time while travelling on city roads. Thanks to the heavy rainfall on Tuesday night and bad roads in several places, traffic had slowed down on many stretches, making commuting harder than it usually is.
Commuters staying in areas like Maredpally, Sainikpuri, AOC Junction, Musheerabad, Banjara Hills, Neredmet, RK Puram, etc said that the commute time on their vehicles and even by other modes of public transport took them much longer than usual. “Also, thanks to the ongoing metro rail works, the situation is so bad that a 25 minute travel takes more than an hour now,” said Abdul Rehman, a resident of Musheerabad.
In other areas like Road No.36, Banjara Hills, traffic was crawling a little after 12 noon for quite some time thanks to bad roads and the ongoing metro rail works. “At least if the roads were not so badly damaged, it would not have been so bad. It is in fact worse for people who use buses, as the huge vehicles get stuck in traffic for several minutes at certain points,” said A. Narasimha Reddy, a resident of Bhoiguda. Traffic snarls were also reported on the SR Nagar-Ameerpet, Kukutpalli-Moosapet stretch.
When contacted, Hyderabad Traffic police officials however said that though traffic had slowed down at several places, no major jams were reported on Wednesday. “No serious congestions were reported as such. But the general bad condition of roads in Hyderabad are a major reason behind the traffic slowing down,” said another official.
Sneha N., a resident of Secunderabad, said that commuting on major main roads at Begumpet, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills has become a nightmare due to damaged roads.
