Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) joint secretary Seshadri Venkateshwaran has taken charge as secretary of the association with immediate effect. This was decided at an executive committee meeting chaired by G. Vinod, HCA president, after incumbent secretary M.V. Sridhar expressed his inability to continue in the post after taking up the job of General Manager (Operations) of the BCCI recently.
For the record, HCA has two joint-secretaries – Seshadri Venkateshwaran and Purushotham Aggarwal – who have been taking care of different subjects till now in the absence of the secretary.
It may be recalled that the EC meeting which was convened to discuss the subject last week had to be adjourned with the members insisting that they get a written commitment from the secretary whether or not he would be sparing enough time for the job.
With Dr. Sridhar informing the HCA about his inability to continue in the post, the EC decided to entrust the job officially to Mr. Venkateshwaran.
Significantly, HCA top officials are not going on record to suggest whether Dr. Sridhar has resigned has gone on ‘long leave’ as he had done during his earlier stint.
“The crux of the issue is that Dr Sridhar will not be available because of his commitment to the BCCI and hence we have to appoint Mr. Venkateshwaran in view of his clean image” a senior official told The Hindu .
This is an interesting development given the fact that various groups – including those which have lost in the last elections – are already on the job of re-alignment for the polls scheduled next June.
