The first meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee constituted by the Telangana government for creation of new districts has decided to meet various stakeholders before making recommendations.
Interim arrangements
The Telangana government, through an order on Wednesday, constituted the sub-committee to make recommendations on the number of districts, interim arrangements for the functioning of the districts, infrastructure, guidelines for employees’ allocations among zones, zonal system under Presidential orders, and guidelines for reorganising departments to suit the new districts, among others.
The sub-committee is being chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali, and has another Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, and Ministers Etala Rajender, Tummala Nageshar Rao, and Jupally Krishna Rao as members.
Special Chief Secretary, Revenue K. Pradeep Chandra would be convenor and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration Raymond Peter would be secretary to the sub-committee.
The committee met on Wednesday evening, and resolved to conduct a series of meetings with stakeholders, beginning with representatives of the employees’ unions on August 12.
Following it, the same day, another meeting would be held with people’s representatives of Adilabad, Medak and Nizamabad districts, with participation from Zilla Parishad chairpersons, collectors, MPs, MLAs and MLCs.
On August 13, it would meet people’s representatives of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Karimnagar, and Khammam districts, and on August 14, those from Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal districts.
On August 16, another meeting would be held with district Collectors and heads of the departments, while on August 18, an all-party meeting would be held by the sub-committee which is to submit its final report within a week.
Apprehensions
In a separate announcement, Minister from the Ranga Reddy district P. Mahender Reddy said a representation would be made to the Chief Minister requesting him to retain the identity of Ranga Reddy district.
This was in view of apprehensions about a separate district being carved out with Vikarabad as headquarters, with the remaining constituencies likely to be merged with Hyderabad, wiping out the existence of the Ranga Reddy district, he said.
