A modern dhobighat built at a cost of Rs.90 lakh by the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) for the benefit of washermen and local residents was inaugurated by the managing director N.V.S. Reddy at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Imliban on Monday.
The new facility was constructed by HMR as compensation and rehabilitation in lieu of the one acre site acquired for the construction of the Metro rail viaduct. It has amenities like a borewell, washrooms, community hall, compound wall, sheds over washing ghats, cement roads, etc.
Addressing a gathering following installation of Renuka Yellamma deity at the new Dhobighat, Mr. Reddy reiterated that rehabilitation of affected people would always remain top priority for HMR.
He also thanked the community for their cooperation in extending their land for the construction of the overhead Metro station at MGBS.
Few of the displaced families would be provided alternate accommodation at Uppal, he said. He also inspected the Metro interchange station being constructed at Imliban.
Superintendent Engineer Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, GM (Works) B.N. Rajeshwar and other senior engineers and officers of HMR and L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd. were present.
Earlier, Mr. Reddy had also kicked off a one-week Metro technology training course for capacity and skill building for the first batch of young engineers at Uppal Metro depot by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd.
