Except for a few cases of girl students asked to remove their rings and nose rings and couple of students being denied entry, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted peacefully in Telangana.
Among the 75,000-odd candidates who registered from the State, nearly 97% attendance was registered in four places - Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Warangal and Khammam that had test centres for the national exam. Two students who came four minutes late in Warangal were denied entry by the officials.
The question paper was relatively easy and those with good preparation could attempt with confidence, according to P.V.R.K. Murthy of Gayatri Educational Institutions. He said this year there were more questions from Zoology (46) than Botany (34). Last year 38 questions were from Zoology and 52 from Botany.
In the Botany paper all questions were straight and simple while two questions in Zoology were found to be tough by the students. In Physics and Chemistry papers one question each was found to be confusing and students had objections to the answers given.
“All the questions were from the 11th and 12th class syllabus prescribed by the CBSE that conducted the exam,” Mr. Murthy said.
The examination paper had 180 questions with four marks allotted for each correct answer and minus one for each wrong answer. So the total marks of the paper was 720. Last year 695 was the highest in the NEET.
Some students, however, said Physics was tougher than Biology. Questions were not time consuming ensuring better time in the exam hall for the students. A senior teacher from a Government College said their students found about 50 questions moderate while 25 questions were bit tough and the remaining were easy.
The CBSE is likely to release the key in a few days and the results are expected to be released on June 5.
