A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice U Durga Prasad Rao on Monday said the insistence of the government that every supplier of eggs for the full meal scheme shall have certification from National Egg Coordination Committee, was valid.

With this judgment, the log jam over the supply of eggs to pregnant, lactating women and children between six months and seven years under the full meal scheme in Telangana was cleared. Several suppliers of eggs filed a writ petition contending that the condition imposed that NECC certification is necessary is illegal.

Initially the single judge allowed the writ petition making it clear NECC registration is not necessary. The judge imposed costs of Rs. 50,000 also.

The government filed the writ appeal and the Bench allowed the writ appeal upholding the conditions imposed by the state government.
