A.P. CM briefs Governor on Chittoor encounter

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu spoke telephonically to Governor E S L Narasimhan on Tuesday and briefed him on the encounter in Chittoor District in which 20 red sanders woodcutters and smugglers were killed in Seshachalam forests of Chittoor district.

The Chief Minister also held a high-level emergency meeting with ministers and top officials, including the Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao and DGP J V Ramudu and reviewed the situation, based on the information available. He instructed the officials to ensure proper medical treatment to those injured in the incident.

He instructed the DGP to hand over the bodies of the slain woodcutters and smugglers to their families after conducting post-mortem. The Chief Minister reviewed the steps taken by the forest department to curb red sanders smuggling.

Labour Minister K. Atchan Naidu, Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and Advisor (Communications) Parakala Prabhakar were among those who attended the meeting.
