Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), Arvind Kumar, asked officials to formulate an action plan for removal of encroachments on Musi River. He proposed a meeting with the Chief Secretary in a couple of days where the officials from GHMC, Police, Irrigation and Collectors of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts will chalk out the action plan.

The fourth board meeting of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation on Thursday discussed drainage plan, removal of encroachments on Musi River and other issues.

The government has so far invited agencies to participate in a design competition for urban landscaping and river-front development.

The Musi River-front project will be taken up in two phases. Under the Phase-I planned to be completed by end of next March, a stretch of four to five kilometres between Purana Pul and Chaderghat would be developed and beautified.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has been asked to take up diversion of 42 Nalas through which sewage enters the river. They have also been entrusted the job of setting up a comprehensive sewerage treatment plant.

Under the Phase-II, a separate Musi corridor is proposed with East-West connectivity in the form of skyway. River conservation and beautification from the outfall of Himayatsagar and Osmansagar on the West to ORR at Gowrelli on the East across a length of 57.5 kms is also part of the project. The development of the entire stretch is expected to be completed within a two and a half years.

Chairman of the Corporation Prem Singh Rathore, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, HMDA Commissioner T. Chiranjeevulu, MD, Water Board, M.Danakishore, Medchal Collector M. V.Reddy, CEO of MRDCL Bharathi Holikeri attended the meeting.
