A combination of robotic-guided and radio frequency-assisted procedures by a team of specialists at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) gave a new lease of life to a 59-year-old Sadhuram Vadhwani of Maharashtra.
The patient, who had a few years ago suffered a cardiac seizure, suffered from life-threatening arrhythmia (a condition wherein people have abnormal and erratic heart beat) called Ventricular Tachycardia (VT).
Five-hour procedureSenior Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. P.A. Jiwani, Chief of Electrophysiology and Pacing, Dr. B. Hygriv Rao and Oncosurgeon Dr. Jagdishwar Gowd, assisted by Chief of Anaesthesia, Dr. Naresh and Cardiologists Dr. Pushpa Rai and Dr. Kaustub were involved in a procedure that lasted five hours, Dr. Hygriv Rao said, at a press conference here on Tuesday.
The heart rate was controlled by using robotic-guided technique to cut nerves that made the heart beat faster-than-normal and used RF ablation to burn abnormal muscles through 3 D mapping.
“Such instances of surgeons from different specialties coming together and simultaneously handling a patient’s condition are rare. We had the advantage of having the specialists and the technology to save the patient’s life,” said Managing Director & CEO of KIMS, Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao.
