The Security Printing Press (SPP) which had been entrusted with the responsibility of printing pattadar passbooks has requested the State government to appropriately extend the timelines set for printing of the passbooks.
The SPP, in a communication to the Telangana State Technology Services (TSTS), said that it had floated a tender for printing and supply of 11,000 passbooks as a pilot project to understand the challenges of personalisation and data handling, a very important aspect in the successful completion of the project.
The passbooks of the pilot project are expected to be delivered within a week subject to the availability of inputs from CCLA like personalisation of data.
The SPP, in its communication, expressed concern that the main tender for printing and supply of 72 lakh pattadar passbooks was not proceeding at the desired pace due to non-availability of key inputs, thus making it difficult to honour the commitment. In view of this, the government of Telangana should consider waiver of the penalty clause and also extension of the timelines appropriately by amending the memorandum of understanding signed with the TSTS.
The communication comes in response to a letter addressed by the TSTS on February 16 seeking clarification on the reasons why production of the passbooks or setting up of infrastructure required for printing the passbooks had not started after a week of signing the MoU.
The TSTS sought response of the SPP on the reasons for not taking a revised action plan for printing and supply of 72 lakh passbooks by next month.
Senior officials of the Revenue Department asserted that the issues raised by the Security Printing Press were minor in nature and they would be resolved in due course.
“There is no change in the timeline and we are confident of meeting the March 11 deadline set by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao,” a senior official told The Hindu .
