Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislator A. Revanth Reddy has alleged that the number of pubs in the city has increased 10 fold during the last three years and the government had intentionally prevented his question on the drugs issue being raised in the Assembly on Friday by getting the House adjourned.
Speaking at the media point later Mr. Reddy demanded that the government announce the names of all those who were questioned in the drugs case being investigated by the Excise Department and the reports of blood samples taken from the suspects.
‘Hand over case’
He remarked that the Excise Department had no wherewithal to probe such cases and instead it should have been handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau. He alleged that three influential political families were controlling the drugs and most of the pubs in Jubilee Hills, Madhapur and Banjara Hills areas were also run by them. He alleged that the number of pubs in the three areas had gone up to 59 from just five or six till June 2014.
More clubs
Meanwhile, in the written reply given by the government on the listed question it is stated that there were 16 clubs in Hyderabad as on June 2, 2014 and their number is 18 as on September 1 this year.
Similarly, the number of bars has increased from 211 to 258, respectively.
Further, the government said 22 persons were arrested in the drugs case and the investigation is under progress.
