A mono rail project for Cyberabad as part of the State government’s plan to improve connectivity and cut down commute time in the IT hub of Hyderabad is taking shape.
“We have started working on mono rail for this area,” said IT and Industries Secretary Jayesh Ranjan at a meeting on Friday, an announcement that is bound to cheer citizens eagerly looking forward to the inauguration of Metro Rail in the city later this month.
While the Metro Rail touches the fringes of Cyberabad, mono rail will service a large part of the area, not only of Cyberabad, which includes Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, and Financial District, but also new areas in the neighbourhood such as Tellapur and Kokkapet, he said.
Noting that mono rail would be the “best and most efficient” solution, he said, the government had studied mono rail in Gurugram, near Delhi. “We feel that there is a bigger justification of putting a mono rail in Cyberabad. The project will be happening soon,” he said.
Mr. Ranjan, who was addressing a meeting of Facilities Management Council, said several measures were being undertaken to improve infrastructure and smoothen traffic flow in the city. He admitted that rush hour traffic had became a nightmare and the road and drainage infrastructure were unable to withstand the heavy rains recently.
The ongoing construction of a suspension bridge over Durgamcheruvu, which has been put on fast track, and the development of surrounding roads, especially those in the Mindspace area, he said, were expected to improve travel time. These works, as also the underpass coming up in Madhapur, would enable people to reach airport from Road No.45, Jubilee Hills, in 25 minutes, he said.
Declaring that the growth story of Hyderabad was not over, he said the best solution to manage traffic was by adhering to road discipline, car pooling and staggering work hours of companies.
