In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old mother of two, belonging to Bardipur in Dichpalli mandal committed suicide by jumping into Godavari at the temple town of Basar in Nirmal district after throwing her children in the river. The incident took place sometime on Wednesday evening but came to light on Thursday.

According to police, Shindekar Archana, who was suffering from mental illness came to Basar with her two children, 6-year-old daughter Deekshita and four-month-old son Keerthi Raj. She apparently threw them into the river at the bathing ghats near the inter district bridge on Godavari connecting Nizamabad.

She later threw herself into the river and ended her life. Archana left home along with her children on Wednesday and told villagers that she was going to a hospital in Basar. Since her husband Ramu was away in Afghanistan working as a coolie, she was staying alone.

She was suffering from an unknown ailment and was depressed, said sources in the village.
