Estimates suggest that 60 per cent of internet data consumption in India is being done through mobile phones
The trend is loud and clear in Hyderabad and elsewhere in the country.
The practice of accessing internet through mobile phones has outgrown the habit of browsing the web on a desktop using a broadband connection. Estimates suggest that 60 per cent of internet data consumption in India is being done through mobile phones, a clear sign that mobile devices and mobile data connectivity is the future.
“Figures amply reflect that small and medium enterprises, willing to reach out to potential customers, have to give due importance to designing mobile friendly websites. There are, however, infrastructure challenges like slow mobile data speeds and broadband connectivity,” said Rajiv Sodhi, MD, GoDaddy India, while interacting with press persons here on Wednesday.
GoDaddy.com is a web hosting and domain name provider and its top official said that the new naming conventions of websites will make browsing experience exciting.
“In future, we will be moving away from the present dotcom to dotanything style of naming websites. This will bring a lot of excitement to the browsing experience. In India, close to 45 million users browse web in their local language. Therefore, the next big step for content providers is to localise their content so that they can reach out to users in rural areas,” he said.
The officials from the domain name provider said that within a year, their customer base has increased by 86 per cent.
“Our local support team is based out of Hyderabad and is assisting customers around the clock. Our aim is to reach to small and medium enterprises and bring them online by offering easy and affordable way of hosting their own websites. In the end, we want to bring business to them,” said GoDaddy International senior vice-president James Caroll.
