Enraged over alleged apathy of officials and the Tahsildar of Pebbair in Mahabubnagar district, a mob ransacked their office following the death of a farmer Boddupalli Lakshmaiah (42) on Thursday afternoon.
Much of the furniture in the office was broken even before the police could rush to the scene.
According to information here, Lakshmaiah of Y. Sakhapur village in Pebbair mandal had purchased three acres and three guntas of land and initiated the registration process.
However, revenue officials were said to have registered only three acres, leaving out the remaining portion of land. For the past three months, Lakshmaiah was said to be making rounds of the Tahsil office and even approached the police, who said it was a revenue matter.
On Thursday afternoon, after trying to get Tahsil officials to register the remaining land, Lakshmaiah collapsed while sitting on a bench on the office premises. He was declared dead at the nearby hospital.
Angry relatives and villagers rushed to the office on information, pelted stones at it and ransacked the premises. “We do not know if it was sun stroke or cardiac arrest that led to Lakshmaiah’s death. That will be established by doctors. We have brought the situation under control,” said Superintendent of Police, P. Viswa Prasad.
