Officials handling the Mission Bhagiratha programme of the government to supply potable water to all households in the State by next year were told to release water by month-end in segments where works were completed.

Giving the instructions at a video conference conducted from here on Thursday, Rural Water Supply Engineer-in-Chief B. Surender Reddy told the officials to release water in coordination with the superintending and executive engineers of the respective districts and steps should be taken to ensure completion of the Mission Bhagiratha project in time.

Challenging times

The coming three months were crucial and testing times for the department as well as the engineers engaged in the project work.

The senior official directed the engineers to submit status report on work in their respective jurisdictions within a day. He wanted the officials concerned to take steps for completion of work taken up in the erstwhile Karimnagar, Adilabad and Mahbubnagar districts with ₹100 crore sanctioned by the World Bank before the month-end and ensure supply of water to 70,000 houses.

Speed up work

Work on intake wells as well as electromechanical components should be speeded up and the officials concerned should procure pipelines needed for the project expeditiously. The district-level engineers briefed Mr. Surender Reddy about the works launched under different schemes including those that were started through the MPLADS funds. He directed the officials concerned to initiate departmental proceedings against a divisional engineer in Nizamabad.
