Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao called upon the public representatives and district officials to ensure that the toilets constructed in the district were used by the beneficiaries.
Addressing a gathering along with Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy on Thursday after declaring the district open defecation-free (ODF), eighth in the State, Mr. Rao said Siddipet would also be declared ODF in the next three days.
“We know the practical problems in making people use the toilets. They will have several reasons to avoid using them, including that of vaastu . It’s the responsibility of the local public representatives, particularly the sarpanches, to ensure that the villagers used the toilets,” he said, adding that Vaikunta Dhamams would be constructed at all the villages to address the problem.
Mr. Rao said ₹430 crore was sanctioned for the national highway from Hyderabad to Bodhan via Narsapur and Medak and the road would be widened to make it a four-lane one.
He congratulated the Collector, Bharati Hollikeri, and others for their efforts in declaring Medak open defecation-free. The Minister also sanctioned ₹5 crore for the development of Pedda Bazar road.
