Mayor Majid Hussain directed the advertising wing officials to remove the lollipops on the road medians within a week, as also illegal hoardings. He wanted a status report to be submitted to the standing committee within a fortnight.

Talking to presspersons after the committee meeting on Thursday, Mr. Hussain expressed his unhappiness over the inordinate delay in clearing the tenders and other works despite being approved months ago.

“The GHMC Commissioner and the standing committee are being misled by the officials about the status of several works. This won't be tolerated,” he said.

The Mayor specially mentioned the hydraulic ladders cleared nine months ago but yet to be purchased as an example. Another issue was removing the lollipops and illegal hoardings for which resolutions were passed long time ago.

Precise list of the properties owned by the municipal corporation is also to be submitted by the Estates wing in the next 15 days since only 101 properties other than markets or shopping complexes of the 272 have been identified and eviction notices issued. The list should be submitted to all corporators, he said.

Mr. Hussain suggested hiring of retired surveyors for identifying the missing properties. He also expressed surprise over the hold up commissioning of the RDF garbage to power plant despite GHMC releasing its share of funds and called for a report as also the modern slaughterhouses. Centralised tenders were suggested for repairing the 74 stagnation points to complete the works before the rains set in.
