Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to set up 400 reverse osmosis (RO) plants as per the allocated budget and expedite the efforts to set up more Rs. 5 meal centres in the city.

At a review meeting on Saturday, Mr. Hussain asked the zonal commissioners to set up the RO plants to provide safe drinking water wherever there was a provision of a building with water facility and have them run by self-help groups.

On the Rs. 5 meal programme, he said eight centres were operational as of now and wanted the rest of the 50, for which the civic body has allocated budget, to be set up in labour addas, hospitals, crossroads and nearby weaker section colonies. He also directed the officials to set up 1,500 Muskan centres, community-managed play schools for deprived children, at community halls or at private buildings owned by teachers.

The GHMC has banned all road-cutting permissions from May 23, he said while asking the engineering wing to concentrate on road development works including lane marking and signages, according to a press release. Mr. Hussain instructed the GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar to approach the corporate and private hospitals and ask them to be cautious while announcing dengue positive cases to avoid creating scare among citizens.

A Building Committee of the GHMC meeting to dispose of pending building applications and occupancy certificates in Circle 10, wards 6, 7 and 8 would be held at Khairatabad Zonal Office on Monday at 11 a.m., according to a press release.
