Even while several disputes are on in the land acquisition for Mallannasagar, District Collector P. Venkatram Reddy was able to convince farmers here to sell their land to the Government for Kondapochamma canals. The three-hour meeting was presided over by Mr. Venkataram Reddy and attended by Revenue Divisional Officer Muthyam Reddy and others. “The Government has proposed construction of Annatagiri, Ranganaik Sagar, Komuravelli Mallanna and Kondapochamma reservoirs, and the canals will flow through the fields of Mangol in Kondapaka mandal. Please cooperate with the Government in executing these projects,” the District Collector urged the farmers. He also convinced them to come down to accepting a compensation of ₹7 lakh per acre from their original demand of ₹12 lakh per acre, stating that the Government would come forward to extend required assistance to the farmers who lose their lands. The District Collector said that the farmers would be handed over cheques on September 19.
