Mandril dies of ailment in zoo

A Mandrill which was brought from Israel four months ago died at the Nehru Zoological Park here on Tuesday night.

The primate which was gifted by Jerusalem Zoo and shifted here towards last year-end showed symptoms of sickness and was immediately put under veterinary care, according to the zoo officials. Apart from the veterinarians of the zoo, services of experts from the Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCones) and Veterinary Biological Research Institute were also availed . An autopsy was carried out and it was concluded that the Mandrill died due to cardiac problem coupled with brain haemorrhage.
