A business management student stealing mobile phones from Honda Activa scooter dickeys after having lost his own mobile in a similar manner was caught by the police on Saturday.
Eighteen mobile phones stolen from two-wheeler dickeys allegedly by the 21-year-old Md. Nazeeruddin were recovered by the Narayanaguda police from his house. A resident of Edibazar in Madannapet of Old City, Nazeeruddin, was a first-year MBA student at Presidency College, Falaknuma.
While appearing for his graduation exam at A.V. College in Domalguda, he drove to the exam centre on his Honda Activa. Leaving it in the parking lot, he kept the mobile phone in the dickey beneath the seat before entering the exam hall.
On return, he found that his phone was stolen.
“He realised that it was easy to break open the Honda Activa seat. Since then, he began stealing mobile phones using the same method,” Narayanaguda Inspector V. Narasimha Reddy said.
The accused used to go around college parking lots, identify Honda Activa vehicles parked and steal phones from the dickeys. On March 23, he went to Jahnavi Degree College in Narayanaguda and stole 16 mobile phones from the dickeys of Honda Activa and Hero Honda two-wheelers. The phones belonged to students appearing for an exam.
Three days ago he struck at Venkateswara College near YMCA crossroads and took away two mobile phones from a Honda Activa. On a tip-off, police caught him and seized 18 mobile phones from his house.
