Mallannasagar project will be completed by next year even though some vested interests are creating hurdles, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao here on Tuesday.

Addressing farmers from Narsapur Assembly constituency who came to Pragathi Bhavan, Mr. Rao said that with the government giving ₹4,000 per acre per crop, farmers would be able to purchase seed, fertilizer and pesticides. If this aid continues for five to six years and if weather is favourable, farmers will be better off, he said.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister said water from various projects would flow to irrigate farmers’ lands and Mallannasagar would be completed by next year.

Check dam

Mr. Rao instructed Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao to initiate action for constructing a check dam on Dontivagu between Brahmanapally and Gundlapally and release funds for it.

Assuring farmers that he would visit their constituency soon along with officials, Mr. Rao said he is aware of the problems of farmers and announced that adequate funds would be given to Narsapur and Gajwel constituencies.

Referring to the programme to distribute sheep to Yadav community, he said it would create wealth worth ₹20,000 crore in three years as sheep would be exported to national and international market. Fisheries would also become a profitable vocation and government is encouraging it in a big way, he said.

Listing out government’s achievements, he said rice is being supplied to people in villages on time and said that every citizen should work unitedly in fight against poverty and that every village should become a unit in the planning development of the State, Mr. Rao said.
