MAA not to shield ‘accused’

The Movie Artistes Association (MAA) has reiterated its stand that it would not shield any of its members who are using drugs to get a 'high'.

However, if any one in the artistes' fraternity confesses in needing help to stay away, it would do whatever was required, it said. At a hastily-convened press conference after holding an internal meeting, president G. Sivaji Raja and general secretary V.K. Naresh said MAA would fully cooperate with the investigating agencies in their job.

They agreed that educating members is also the need of the hour.

"We trust our members not to commit the mistake intentionally, but if anyone does so, we will not support them blindly.

Appeal to media

The menace needs to be looked at as more of an individual problem and not portray the entire community in demeaning manner," they said, adding an appeal, asking the media not to look for sensationalism.
