Over 300 students from several schools converged at Suprabhat Model School at Nacharam for The Hindu Chess Competition-2017 on Sunday.

Speaking to the young chess players on the occasion, Arjuna awardee and triple Olympian Mukesh Kumar Nandanoori said since chess was a game that required strategy to checkmate the opponent, the players should be patient.

He talked of players and athletes who have achieved success such as chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand and several shuttlers and pointed out that they could achieve recognition owing to their hard work.

Telangana State Chess Association secretary K.S. Prasad and chess coach Padmaja Reddy supervised the arrangements.

The title sponsor of the event was Thyrocare with knowledge partner being Arrow Publications and Syndicate Bank being the regional sponsor.

Emerging Player Award

The winners in under-9 category were Aarna, K. Nithik and Sai Rithiwik M.M. The under-11 winners were Akash Kumar, Bhargav V.L.S. and R. Gnaneswar while the under-13 category winners were Vignesh Ramaswamy, Sanidhya and Priyavarshan. Prizes in under-15 category went to Hima Surya Kandru, Pavan and Saketh Nandan. The Emerging Player Award was bagged by K.V.K. Surya Kiran.
