Liquor bottles to have warning against drunk driving

Liquor bottles in the State will soon contain large pictorial warnings against drink driving in order to spread awareness and help the police in bringing down cases of people driving under the influence of alcohol, said R. V. Chandravadan, Commissioner, Prohibition and Excise department. Presently, the bottles are only bearing labels warning against alcohol consumption as it is injurious to health.

Mr. Chandravadan was addressing officials and offenders who were caught for underage drinking and drunk driving at an awareness programme organised by the Cyberabad police. According to data released by the police, 4,670 more cases of drunken driving till June 2016 were reported during the same period last year in the Cyberabad area Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Transport Commissioner, said that road accidents are a major reason for deaths in the country and that drunken driving and underage driving among people aged between 25 to 30 years is of major concern. “Most accidents occur because people do not respect traffic signals,” he mentioned.

Students and parents of those who were caught for underage driving at the awareness programme, where the traffic police demonstrated how the cops check drink driving and utilise the breath analyser during the course of their work.
