BJP Telangana unit resident’s K. Laxman’s Telangana Liberation Tour, a week-long programme across the State to impress upon the Government the “need for celebrating” the ‘Liberation Day’ on Sept.17, will be kicked off at Bagh Lingampally on Friday. On the occasion, he will be addressing party workers.

Prior to it, Dr. Laxman will be offering prayers at the Durga temple in Basheerbagh. The ‘Yatra’ to be flagged off by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya would also see other State and Central leaders of the party joining all through as it would be traversing 20 districts, 36 Assembly constituencies and 105 mandals.

“Voluntarily, scores of people had participated in the struggle for freedom and the prolonged agitation has no parallel anywhere in the country. About 600 princely states got annexed into the Indian Union and without police action by the Centre, Sardar Patel’s role and the public support, Telangana would not have happened and it cannot be forgotten,” he said at a press conference on Thursday.

His tour was an effort to “to bring to the fore the sacrifices made by several unknown persons because of the atrocities by the Nizam’s henchmen and remind the present Government of its responsibility in observing the event”.

Dr. Laxman accused the the TRS Government of “trying to suppress history. “After accusing the past Governments of having ignored the liberation struggle and harping on the issue throughout the agitation, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has conveniently set it aside, mortgaging the self-respect of the TS people for the sake of Majlis Party,” he charged.

If the Maharastra and Karnataka Governments were celebrating the liberation day officially even when a small portion of the Nizam’s erstwhile land went to them, why does not the TS Government want to do so, the BJP leader asked.
