Lapses found in Gudamba brewers’ rehabilitation

Beneficiary alleges old, inferior quality stock; inquiry ordered

The district administration has ordered an inquiry on the reported supply of materials of inferior quality or goods whose expiry date had passed, to a shop established under the rehabilitation of Gudamba brewers in the district.

It was suspected that some of the officials were hands-in-glove with the supplier.

B. Janardan of Bilalpur in Kohir mandal had established a grocery shop in his village under the scheme.

As per the scheme he was given ₹ 50,000 for furniture and another ₹ 1.5 lakh for purchase of groceries.

No bill

Instead of purchasing the groceries locally either at mandal headquarters or divisional headquarters they were asked to purchase the materials at Sangareddy and Janardan had to spend about ₹ 3,000 on transport.

They were not given the bill for the purchase despite repeated efforts.

As they did not know the price of the goods they could not decide at what price to sell. In addition, some soaps supplied to them were manufactured in 2013 and 2014.

After seeing the date the locals refrained from purchasing them.

Similarly, some of the food stuff was in covers printed with ‘use before 15 days’ from the manufacturing date. On some of them, the date of manufacturing could not be found.

The question was who is to be held responsible if some of the children purchased the products and fell ill.

Janardan and his wife came to the Collectorate on Monday to submit a memorandum to the officials and they were suggested to approach the excise officials responsible for selection of beneficiaries.

As this was reported in some section of the media, C. Sridhar, District Welfare Officer, visited Bilalpur on Tuesday night and ordered an inquiry based on prima facie facts, which is being conducted by two officers. Report was expected by tomorrow.

Officials suspected

The officials were also asked to check the facts at four other kirana shops established under the scheme at Manoor and Patancheru.

“We are suspecting the involvement of some of the officials in selection of beneficiaries and purchase of goods. However, it is yet to be established,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
