People commuting to and from Narsapur Chowrastha in Balanagar industrial area could have a relief from the heavy traffic every day in the next 18 to 20 months, since the foundation stone for construction of a flyover with a cost of about ₹ 400 crore was laid on Monday.
Minister for Municipal Administration K.T. Rama Rao laid the foundation stone along with colleagues N. Narsimha Reddy, T. Srinivas Yadav and P. Mahender Reddy, MP C. Malla Reddy and legislators M. Krishna Rao, K.P. Vivekanand Goud and Shambipur Raju, besides Commissioner of HMDA T. Chiranjeevulu.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rama Rao urged the people of Hyderabad to give some more time to undo the ills plaguing the city, piled up due to continuous inaction for nearly 60 years of neglect during the unified Andhra Pradesh dispensation. “The government has taken up several initiatives with a proper plan so far but there won’t be any magic wand to set everything right in a short span of three years”, he stated.
Taking a dig at the political detractors of the government he sought to know whether all the problems existing now had come up overnight or after the formation of Telangana. In spite of all adversities, the city could get international recognition from agencies such as JLL and Mercer as the place with best liveable conditions in India, he pointed out.
Several road development and flyover projects were in progress with over ₹ 3,000 crore cost, and proposals worth another ₹ 10,000 crore were in the pipeline. Mr. Rama Rao explained that land for skyways from Paradise to Kompally and JBS to Tumukunta was sought from the Defence Ministry. Although the Centre had agreed for ₹ 2,000 crore for the JBS-Tumukunta skyway, orders on the defence land were yet to be issued.
The Amberpet-Ramanthapur flyover with ₹ 250 crore was in the tenders stage and ₹ 1,000 crore Uppal-Ghatkesar-Narapally flyover would be taken up soon. Tenders for one lakh more double-bedroom houses in the city would be also be floated soon.
Stating that the government was also contemplating second stage of Metro Rail project, the minister said the 30 km Nagole-Miyapur link would be inaugurated in the last week of November.
