The BJP Telangana unit president, G. Kishan Reddy on Friday warned of an agitation if the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi went back on its promise of waiving farm loans up to Rs. 1 lakh.

At a press conference here, Mr. Reddy said the TRS appeared to be diluting its own promise by stating that only farm loans taken between June 2013 and May 2014 would be waived, notwithstanding the TRS’ electoral call that farmers need not pay their loans. He wanted the TRS legislators to honour promises made during their campaign.

Mr. Reddy who returned from Delhi said he had a 30-minute meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which he had explained how the voice of Telangana was not heard in the corridors of power in the national capital, as much as that of Andhra Pradesh.

The MLA said he had explained to Mr. Modi how, while Andhra Pradesh had at least five airports - Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Puttaparthi, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, Telangana only had one international airport at Shamshabad to boast of. He wanted the defunct airports at Adilabad, Karimnagar and Warangal be made functional.

He also urged the Prime Minister to conduct a feasibility study on setting up a steel plant at Bayyaram in Khammam district and also a 4,000 MW power plant at Ramagundam.
