Kidney transplantation successful on 23-yr-old

A team of surgeons from Continental Hospitals have successfully operated a 23-year-old for kidney transplant.

The patient, Padma Raju, who had end-stage renal ailment, had been struggling due to kidney failure for the past two years, grappling with such complications as fluid in lungs, uncontrolled hypertension and low haemoglobin.

After consultations and counselling, hospital authorities said Padma Raju’s mother Venkatamma had come forward to donate her kidney.

“The surgery was successful and the patient recovered quite well. His haemoglobin has improved, no hypertension medication is needed now and there is no diet restriction. Kidney transplantation will provide best quality of life for patients having end-stage renal failure,” said the hospital’s chairman and managing director, Dr. Guru N. Reddy.

The surgery was taken up by a team comprising Dr. Vishwambarnath, Dr. Vasanth and nephrologists Dr. Kavitha and Dr. Murthy. – Staff Reporter
