Battle lines drawn between Congress, TDP in L.B.Nagar
Damaged internal roads, drinking water woes in Vanasthalipuram, shifting of Fatullahguda dumping yard, low voltage coupled with frequent power disruption and traffic chaos on the main roads…..problems are numerous in the eight GHMC divisions of L.B. Nagar Assembly constituency. More than these, civic and infrastructure connected core issues, ‘local' strength, cadre's relations with voters, assurances over facilities like street lighting are set to decide the fate of the contestants.
P&T colony, Gaddiannaram, Mansoorabad and Karmanghat divisions are reserved for women (general) while Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Champapet and Kothapet divisions are open. Areas of Saroornagar and Ramakrishnapuram divisions, reserved for women (general), come under both L.B. Nagar and Maheshwaram Assembly constituencies.
Though candidates from all major parties are in the fray, the fight is keenly poised mainly between Congress and Telugu Desam parties. However, candidates from BJP and Praja Rajyam parties are throwing formidable challenge in some divisions. A keen contest is on between Jakkidi Prasanna of Congress, Koppula Sri Lata of TD and Ch. Kranthi Goud of BJP in Mansoorabad. Ms. Prasanna and Ms. Lata are vying with each other since their respective families reportedly have fairly good network. Congress candidates have the advantage since the local MLA Sudhir Reddy is from their party and leaders like Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy of neighbouring Maheshwaram constituency and other Ministers campaigned vigorously. Barring TD supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu, no other ‘influential' leader of that party campaigned.
