KCR promises houses to slum-dwellers

The State government will provide two bedroom housing to the nearly two lakh families living in slums of the city in a phased manner, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said here on Tuesday.

While returning from Balkampet Yellamma temple in Sanathnagar, Mr.Rao stopped at Indiranagar Basthi and after inspecting the conditions, assured the families on providing them with housing units. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was asked to prepare layouts required for the purpose, according to a press release.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to ensure a planned implementation of Haritha Haaram programme and create adequate lung spaces for the growing population of the city.

During a visit to Outer Ring Road (ORR), Mr. Rao sought measures to protect nearly 1.50 lakh acres that fall under different forest blocks and prevent any possibilities of these lands falling prey to encroachments.

Accompanied by officials, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner Shalini Mishra, the Chief Minister on Tuesday toured the ORR stretch from Kandlakoya to Ghatkesar passing through Gachibowli, Shamshabad and Nagarjunasagar road. He directed the officials to develop a beautiful green belt along the ORR that rings the city, according to a press release.

Mr. Rao wanted greenery developed along all the major roads, including Warangal Highway, Rajeev Rahadari, Mumbai old highway, Srisailam and Sagar roads. He also visited the nursery at Ghatkesar where 10 lakh plants were being raised.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that the ORR works between Ghatkesar and Shameerpet would be completed by January 2016.

The visit also covered Musi river between Warangal and Vijayawada and Mr. Rao proposed a 42-km bridge from there till Gandipet ORR point, the press release added.
