Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has promised two-bedroom houses for poor people of Kerala origin settled in Hyderabad.
He told a meeting of Keralites at Shilpa Kalavedika after laying the foundation stone for Kerala Bhavan at Film Nagar that he was informed about the presence of 350 poor families from Kerala in Hyderabad and all of them would get two-bedroom houses, an election promise of TRS. He also said that he came to know about 350 poor families in Hyderabad from Libby Benjamin, President of Confederation of Telugu Region Malayali Association, whom he had tasked with identification of families.
Mr. Rao appreciated the advice of Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, who was also present at the function, to strive to improve literacy in Telangana. He said the Telangana government will take up a special programme to eradicate illiteracy.
Appealing to Keralites to participate in the rebuilding of Telangana by his government, Mr. Rao assured them that they enjoy equal rights and respect as people of Telangana.
Mr. Chandy recalled allotment of five acres of land by the Kerala government for pilgrims from Telangana at Sabarimala. He expressed hope that Keralites will continue to have cordial relations with the people of Telangana.
Mr. Benjamin invited donations for the construction of Kerala Bhavan though the Telangana government has donated Rs. One crore for the purpose, beside giving one acre land on lease. He assured that the expenditure on construction will be posted on the website. Earlier, Congress leaders received Mr. Chandy at the airport.
