It’s a rare case of a woman being forced to end her life by consuming poison as she refused to lead a married life.
When 22-year-old G. Jhansi of Nakrekal in Nalgonda made it clear to her husband, G. Vijayender Reddy, that she was not interested in living with him, the latter lost temper and beat her up.
Reconstructing the sequence of events that resulted in her ‘murder’, Nalgonda SP N. Prakash Reddy told The Hindu that the victim – for some personal reasons – was unwilling to live with her husband.
Since her marriage two years ago, she reportedly was trying to be away from her husband. For two years, she lived in a hostel at IS Sadan in Santoshnagar in Hyderabad to complete her engineering. On May 24, Vijayender came to the hostel and took her back to Nakrekal.
From the moment they arrived at Jhansi’s rented house in which her mother Padma lived, arguments ensued over their family life.
“Vijayender and Padma goaded Jhansi to live with her husband, not paying heed to her plea,” the SP explained.
At one point during one such arguments, they told Jhansi that the only option she had was to either live with her husband or die.
