The Legal Metrology Department officials on Saturday booked four cases against Chandana Brothers Dilsukhnagar branch showroom for selling gold ornaments by charging stone weight, including the gold rate.
Rules ignored
Rules stipulate that the gold traders should sell ornaments by deducting stone weight but many were ignoring this rule and collecting more money from buyers.
Acting on a complaint lodged by a retired employee K. Kishan, the department formed a special team led by Assistant Controller K. Bhaskar and visited Chandana Brothers showroom posing as a customers.
They purchased a gold chain and studded ear rings.
After obtaining bill from the cash counter, the team found that the management was selling ornaments by charging stone weight, including gold rate, said Additional Director-General of Police and Legal Metrology Controller R.P. Thakur.
He said the management has also not mentioned the purity of the gold.
Cases booked
Four cases were booked against the showroom under the provisions of Legal Metrology Act for selling ornaments in violation of norms.
