JDU to fight for prohibition

June 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:23 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Janata Dal United Party will fight for ensuring that liquor is banned in the two Telugu-speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, said party’s general secretary Javed Raza.

Participating in a meeting here on Sunday, he demanded that the two States replicate Bihar in clamping prohibition and urged party cadre here to wage a massive movement across Telangana and fight against sale of liquor.

Despite losing revenues to the tune of Rs. 5,000 crore, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had taken the move only to see a smile on the faces of women, he said.

Mr. Raza said despite promising it during the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to keep it, adding that the Modi Government’s promise of bringing back black money stashed in foreign banks too had not seen reality.
