The first official celebrations of the birth anniversary of Telangana ideologue Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar were kicked off on Saturday with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao garlanding his portrait at Telangana Bhavan, headquarters of the ruling party.
Mr. Rao paid glorious tributes to the man who played a vital role in the protracted struggle that led to the formation of a separate State and said his ideals need to be taken forward in realising ‘Bangaru (golden) Telangana’.
At the Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, Rajya Sabha Member Rapolu Anand Bhaskar, Special Representative, K.M. Sawhney and Resident Commissioner, Shashank Goel participated, while at the Secretariat here, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma garlanded a portrait.
At the State Agricultural University, IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao garlanded a bust of the ideologue as did Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. Praveen Rao and others.
“Jayashankar’s path”
At a meeting afterwards, Mr. Rama Rao said every step forward of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi is on the path shown by Prof. Jayashankar.
At Vikarabad, Ministers P. Mahender Reddy (Transport) and Jupally Krishna Rao (Panchayati Raj) unveiled a statue and paid their tributes. Dozens of functions were organised all over the State, with virtually every Government organisation celebrating the occasion.
At the State Public Service Commission office, Chairman Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani paid his respects and said Prof. Jayashankar had been an inspiration for the movement that led to the birth of a separate State.
At the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute, its Director-General V.K. Agarwal led the celebrations, while at the Telangana Transco and Genco, Chairman & Managing Director D. Prabhakar Rao participated in the meeting.
