Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao on Monday reviewed the progress of geospatial database, the Telangana Water Resources Information Systems, and the preparations being done by the Irrigation and Command Area Development Department in association with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The GIS team demonstrated 55 projects which had been digitised so far.

The digitised data included the command boundary, entire canal network up to sub-minor level, distributary-wise or WUA-wise boundary within the command area, for the 55 major and medium irrigation projects. Other details such as the salient features of the project, dam details, and ayacut details have been made available on the system. Further, 8,177 canals covering a length of 22,784 km have been digitised and canal attribute information like – length of the canal, lining, ayacut – have been added for 4,000 canals so far. Similarly, 46,000 minor irrigation tanks have also been geo-tagged so far and the information related to tanks like ayacut, the phase of Mission Kakatiya in which they were taken up for restoration, photos of bund, and the weir and sluice, have been made available in the system; which was demonstrated before the minister.

The cropping pattern in the last kharif and rabi seasons under all projects was analysed using the satellite imagery. Special Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi, and Engineer-in-Chief C. Muralidhar participated.
