Former minister and BJP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti Government headed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has violated norms in awarding works of irrigation projects to few select contractors.
The contractors under the Palamuru - Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme had little experience in handling major projects, but they were given contracts by changing rules wherever necessary in lure of “kickbacks”, he said. “The rules have been changed in such a way that they are customised and tailor made for companies which are selected by the Government,” he alleged.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy, who circulated “documentary evidence” pertaining to irregularities in the award of contracts, at a round table meeting here on Monday dared the Government to prove his charges wrong.
“If the Government can prove even a single charge as false, I am prepared to quit active politics,” he said. He exhorted the Opposition parties including the TDP and the Congress to insist on a debate on the issue in the forthcoming budget session.
