IRCTC announces Southern Jewels Monsoon Special

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced special monsoon offers of paying for one adult travel with a companion as a compliment on board the IRCTC’s Maharajas’ Express from Trivandrum to Mumbai.

The train has won the Leading Luxury Train of the World Award for five consecutive years since 2012. Christened Southern Jewels — Monsoon Special for this package, it will leave Trivandrum on July 1. It will terminate at Mumbai on an eight days and seven nights journey. Enroute, it will cover Chettinad, Mahabalipuram, Mysore, Hampi and Goa.

The 23 coach-long train can accommodate 88 guests in ultimate comfort. Facilities include an on-board water filtration plant, spacious cabins with no bunk beds, two bars-cum-lounges, two restaurants and personnel to cater to global expectations, said a press release.

Break journey

The tariff has been fixed at ₹ 5,00,680 for an adult in a deluxe cabin, ₹7,23,420 for a junior suite, ₹10,09,330 for a suite and ₹17,33,410 for presidential suite, said Joint General Manager N. Sanjeevaiah. For the first time, a provision has been made for those interested to avail break journey for two nights and three days at US $ 500 or ₹33,250 per day per person on twin-sharing basis. For single occupancy, it will cost US $ 800 or ₹ 53,200, exclusive of taxes.

The package comes will all meals, complimentary house wines, sight-seeing with entrance fees at different locations, services of an experienced tour director and a paramedic on board.
