Inter-State checkposts closed in Nizamabad

Commercial Tax checkposts become redundant in GST regime

July 01, 2017 11:39 pm | Updated 11:41 pm IST - NIZAMABAD

Inter-State commercial taxes check-posts at Salura in Bodhan mandal and Salabathpur in Madnur mandal of Kamareddy district were removed from Friday midnight with the advent of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Though other check-posts like excise, transport and agriculture market committees continue at these two points they are likely to lose their sheen as the commercial taxes check-posts are key there. The process of shifting the CT staff at these check-posts to other places is reportedly on. Hitherto, for CT officers these two check-posts were much-sought-after for posting.

Sought after posts

Since the country is heading towards the policy of “One Nation One Tax” with the introduction of new indirect tax regime commercial taxes’ check-posts have become redundant with sales tax being collected at one point and multi-point taxation coming to an end.

As the buzz at these commercial tax check-posts will disappear henceforth other check-posts will also suffer as there would be no serious supervision and surveillance at these locations.

Salabathpur check-post set up some decades ago used to serve the inter-State border between Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana and Salura is between Telangana and Maharashtra.

All vehicles carrying commodities across the state border used to stop and get checked over there.
