The State Government has asked insurance companies to complete the settlement of crop insurance claims for 2016 Kharif by November 25 and that of 2016-17 Rabi including the claims against hailstorm damage by the month-end. At a meeting held with the representatives of insurance companies here on Monday, Agriculture Production Commissioner C. Parthasarathi expressed disappointment over the delay in settlement of claims in spite of repeated pleas. He told the companies to submit the certificates of claims settlement to the State Government at the earliest.

Mr. Parthasarathi also brought to the notice of the insurers that the cheques issued by them towards the settlement of claims to non-loanee farmers were being dishonoured by the banks.

He suggested that the agriculture officers at mandal level and bankers should jointly address the issue and ensure that the settlement amounts were credited to the beneficiary farmers.

Further, they were told to complete appointment of in-charges for insuring the current (2017-18) Rabi crops. He directed the Agriculture Department officials to take proper care in conducting the crop-cutting experiments for paddy and made it clear that there would be no sanctity to such procedures conducted independently by representatives of insurance companies.

Commissioner of Agriculture M. Jaganmohan also participated in the meeting attended by the representatives of Chola Insurance, National Insurance, Bajaj Allianz, State Bank General Insurance, United India Insurance, National Insurance, ICICI, Agriculture Insurance, and Reliance General Insurance companies.
