Blame it on high demand for rental spaces or the indifferent attitude of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, the illegal structures have been mushrooming in large numbers in and around Hitec city.

Number of instances

Despite a number of instances of building collapses in the last couple of years, unauthorised multi-storied structures in Madhapur, Kondapur, Kukatpally and Miyapur on a small piece of land are a common sight.

On the Madhapur-Kukatpally main road, one can find an under-construction structure with four floors over an area of not more than 100 sq yards.

Similar buildings have come up in areas of 50 sq yards to 100 sq yards in phase no.7 of Kukatpally Housing Board.

Yet to react

Despite the owners advertising the place for commercial purpose usage, the GHMC officials are yet to come across it.

“We are not aware of any such building. If we get a complaint, then we will take action,” said Deputy Commissioner of Moosapet, Narender Gowd who informed that not more than first floor can be built on a land with the specifications of those of the structures sighted.

Not far are Anjaiah Nagar and Raghavendra Society in Kondapur where fresh and unauthorised constructions of multiple floors are taking place, again without any action from the GHMC officials.

Complaint lodged

Talking about the situation, Chairman of Human Rights and Consumer Protection Cell, Thakur Rajkumar Singh said, “There are hundreds of illegal buildings being constructed from Miyapur to BHEL.

A few weeks back, we have lodged a complaint with the GHMC revealing the location of such structures. Since there was no response, we suspect that the GHMC officials are supporting the builders in carrying out such illegal activities.”

New constructions

In Ayyappa society in Madhapur, new constructions are not a new sight even though the walls and gates have GHMC stamp notifying the public that they are illegal structures.
